Ren and Orca were clever with their hands and swift of thought and they went down to the river with carefully selected bones to clean and shape into scrapers and sewing needles.

They knew well the Firebird story as told to them many times. As small children they had played with the mud from the river shallows making animals and dolls from it which hardened in the Sun. Now Orca had the idea, as they were discussing the Firebird story, to make a hollow egg from the mud.

In honor of their Grandfather's memory,and the wish for his return to the tribe, Ren and his sister had cleaned the river shallows Mud with their fingers as if it were food for their Grandfather to call him back to his people.
