As the millenia passed the people found that by using a long hollow reed to blow through it was possible to make the firebird eggs sound while they were still hot. The game was to try to get a sound while it still glowed red hot!

Hundreds of years passed until nearly everybody knew this game and then someone with a sense of humour and curiosity made a firebird's egg with a clay tube built into it. This was the first ocarina with a mouthpiece, which immediately became very popular as an instrument used by dancers, who holding them in their mouths, were completely free to dance with their whole bodies. (Dancers whistles.)

Thus the Bird Dancers sought the Firebird again.
