Dear Job,
My project for making a video should be advertised all round the locality for potential students so that when I arrive on Saturday 4 March, We might have the introduction (Potters, Native American people interested in community / craft workshops, musicians, teachers et al). We will need at least Icwt (52 kilos) Fine (no grog) preferably red Earthenware and means of firing to 950deg., a well lighted workshop. For Native American Workshop each student should collect various small (Lollipop?) sticks, a long small smooth Tile or similar) and 2 small (soft) plastic bags. In addition, a few sturdy craft knives and some sandpaper.
For the Standard Ocarina workshop each student will require a set of feeler guages' Bamboo & 7mm (1/4 inch) to 9mm (3/8 inch) Dia., 2 pieces 8-9 inches septums ('knuckles') a piece 6 inches (150mm) long for a Node or Septum 20mm (11/16 in approx. diameter. Spare 1/4" - 3/8" bamboo of 1-2 blade handles. I small flat hairgrip. The class will need in addition a grinding wheel and small hand files pliers (1 snipe rounded, 1 small flat). 3/8" & 3/4" round dowel may substitute for Bamboo.
We will need at least Icwt (52 kilos) Fine (no grog) preferably red Earthenware and means of firing to 950deg.
I leave it to you how much we can do and when and where whilst I am there Feb - March I suggest circulating this letter at Craft schools and studios and the Navaho Nation Craft Teachers, etc. I could manage 4 groups of 5 people for the workshops, which could be quite tiring as we video some of it.
If we want the Native American pottery ocarina workshop to be really authentic, we could travel to a natural outdoor potting location such as a valley clay river bed with (Tree) shade.
